The Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines was founded in 1969.
Our mission is to improve quality of life for all by promoting charitable giving, connecting donors with causes they care about and providing leadership on important community issues...we're simply better together.
The Community Foundation is confirmed in compliance with National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations.
The Community Foundation is led by our President, Kristi Knous. We are governed by a board of directors that is representative of the community.
The Community Foundation currently manages assets in excess of $398 million and administers more than 1,500 charitable funds.
Through Community Foundation grantmaking programs and donor funds, over $26 million was granted to charitable causes in 2015.
Gifts we accept
The Community Foundation accepts gifts of cash and appreciated assets, real estate, bequests, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts and gifts designated through a life insurance policy, IRA or 401(k) plan.
Community Foundation donors receive full tax benefits including access to Endow Iowa Tax Credits-a 25% Iowa tax credit in addition to normal federal charitable income tax deductions for certain charitable gifts.
The Community Foundation's grant making program supports arts and culture; community betterment; education; health; strengthening individuals and families; workforce development and social capital.
