Community Foundation Seeks an Accounting Associate

The primary responsibility of the Accounting Associate is to provide support to the Nonprofit Accounting Service Program and clients.  The Accounting Associate is responsible for maintaining, monitoring and reporting financial and accounting information in adherence to Community Foundation and NAS client policies and procedures.

  • Maintain accounting records in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Manage all accounting functions to be accurate, timely and in accordance with internal controls.
  • Provide back up in absence of other finance staff; needs to be familiar with general accounting functions.
  • Assist with maintenance of iPhi, finance databases and department filing systems; assists with departmental filing and year-end file rotation to archive area.
  • Provide back up and assistance to other finance staff members, as requested. Secondary backup for counterpart Accounting Associate duties (grant distributions, A/P and contributions).
  • Other duties as assigned. 


  • Process accounts payable (due diligence, approval verification, entry and check preparation).
  • Process daily deposits (enter donor information, verify accuracy of information, and post transactions).
  • Review and prepare all financial transactions and reports for assigned clients.
  • Prepare and review all payroll transactions and reports, including tax filings and requirements.


  • Perform month-end account reconciliations as requested.
  • Prepare year-end procedures and reports for tax filings to include W-2s, 1099s.


  • Assist in the annual tax and audit activities of the clients.
  • Assist with year-end procedures to include general maintenance of general ledger, year-end adjusting journal entries, accruals, etc.

Education and/or Experience

Minimum of an Associate’s degree in accounting, and two to five years related accounting/finance experience preferably at a nonprofit organization; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  

Language Ability 

Excellent writing, proofreading and critical thinking skills. Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  Ability to effectively present information to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Excellent telephone and customer service skills.

Cognitive Demands 

Proven ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, set priorities, handles numerous responsibilities, and work both independently and in a team environment. Adaptable attitude, attention to detail, organized self-starter, and creative. Able to interface well with a variety of people. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
