Anawim Housing develops stable homes and strengthens people and communities. From its start in 1987 as a vision of Sister Stella Neill, Anawim Housing has become a local leader in affordable housing—working to end homelessness and ensure the most vulnerable in our community have a safe place to call home. Today, we are the largest provider of Permanent Supportive Housing in the state of Iowa—serving individuals and families who have a history of long-term homelessness and live with mental illness, a substance abuse disorder, a physical disability, a diagnosis of HIV/AIDS, or are fleeing domestic violence. At Anawim, we believe housing is a human right and home is everything. We use evidence-based practices of Housing First, harm reduction, peer support, trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and strengths-based case management to move individuals and families experiencing homelessness into safe housing as rapidly as possible.
