LSI: Global Greens, Planting Possibilities

Project Description

LSI Global Greens urban agriculture program reconnects New Americans with land and farming resources to improve self-sufficiency, improves physical and mental health, and creates safe, ecologically sustainable green spaces in urban Des Moines.

Our work connects nearly 300 growers at 22 land sites around Des Moines, providing beginning farmer training, business coaching, and developing markets like the Global Greens International Market and Food Hub. Producers in the program grow over 1.2 million pounds of produce annually.

Our model provides a positive cycle of self-sufficiency: food insecure community members grow their own healthy, affordable and culturally appropriate vegetables, their well-being improves, and they make money while doing it.
