EWI Super Sponsors for Power Read Students

Everybody Wins! Iowa (EWI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring children’s success in school and life through weekly one-to-one read-aloud experiences with caring adults. Power Read is our signature program where students meet with their mentor weekly and read aloud to bond and build a relationship together. During Power Read, the pair interacts in a one-to-one, informal, safe, and fun setting. Through these ongoing read-aloud sessions, elementary students in the program use reading as a vehicle to develop their social and emotional learning, build positive relationships with their mentors, and practice reading which prepares them for success in school.

Power Read centers on read-aloud experiences and complements the education that our students are receiving by giving them a time where they can consistently practice their reading skills outside of the classroom. Students are selected by their teachers to be in the program based on three areas: they are reading below grade level, they are an English language learner, or they would benefit from a consistent mentoring experience. The cost to sponsor one student is $500 and we are seeking sponsors for 70 students enrolled in Power Read without sponsorship funding yet this school year. There is no cost to the students/families in our school programs to ensure we reach students who would benefit most from having a reading mentor regardless of circumstances. We are currently serving a total of 234 students in Power Read. Everybody Wins! Iowa started in 2002 serving 15 children in the Des Moines School Community. During FY24, our program served 454 students at 28 program schools located across Central Iowa (7 school districts in 3 counties: Polk, Dallas, Warren).
