Des Moines Student Incentive Gift Cards for Math Motivators Fall Semester

Math Motivators serves Des Moines students in grades 3–12 with FREE tutoring that builds skills and confidence in foundational math, algebra, and geometry. We use $25 gift cards as end-of-semester recognitions for consistent participation. Students earn them by meeting clear milestones, for example weekly attendance, on time arrival, and completion of practice. With $3,750, we will fund 150 gift cards for Des Moines students only and distribute them this semester in December. We track milestones in a simple log reviewed by tutors and staff. This approach increases attendance, strengthens study habits, and fosters a culture of effort and belonging. We focus incentives on persistence and growth, not grades alone, and reserve a small number for students who overcome barriers such as transportation or caregiving responsibilities.
