Project Description
Village Campus 2026: Providing Permanent Supportive Housing, Structured Recovery, and Sustainable Independence for Women in Crisis
Homelessness in Polk County is rising—and for women, it’s especially dangerous.
At The Beacon, we serve women who’ve fled domestic violence, lived in cars, or traded safety for survival. These aren’t distant stories—they are the daily realities of the women who walk through our doors. In 2025, 779 people were unhoused in Polk County—a 9% increase from the year before. And while leaders across our region have begun planning solutions, the need continues to outpace the response.
Village Campus 2026 is our answer. We’re expanding our campus on the east side of Des Moines by renovating a long-vacant motel at 1348 E. Euclid into 32 units of permanent supportive housing—doubling the size of The Beacon Village and bringing our total recovery housing capacity to 64 units.
Because healing takes more than hope. It takes a home.
