Project Description
The purpose of the SAFE center is to provide direct care services all in a single location for victims who experience traumatizing crime such as sexual assault, domestic violence, human trafficking, and other personally intimate crimes. Those who experience these crimes have a critical need for healthcare, advocacy, and legal support all while they have endured an unfathomable amount of trauma. The current services available to those who need these specialized disciplines are inconsistently accessible and sometimes not at all accessible. Furthermore, if services are available the needs of the victim are only met if the victim seeks these services in multiple locations, multiple appointments, and multiple navigation hurdles. However, before that journey can even begin, a victim must be fortunate enough to know where and how to start the process of locating services.
The SAFE Center of Iowa brings together a team of experts who are all specially trained in providing these services in every discipline in ONE singular facility. A victim will never have to navigate the 'IF' services are available and what services they should have options to in a solo dehumanizing manner. The SAFE Center of Iowa will be visible in the community and will actively work with community partners to allow space for every expert to provide the specialized care and services necessary for a victim to turn a dark journey into one that sheds light and hope. The SAFE Center will utilize only specially trained nurses and medically providers who have knowledge, expertise, and skills to provide care for the unique health needs that are presented after such violent acts.
