Project Description

Shalom Community Impact Center (SCIC) is a multicultural community hub dedicated to restoring hope, dignity, and opportunity for immigrant and refugee families, children, and individuals across Des Moines. Our doors are open to all—because every person deserves to be seen, supported, and loved.

Thanks to generous donors, we currently offer these programs completely free to our participants:

  • English Language Learning (ELL) classes
  • Digital literacy training
  • Free preschool with lunch provided
  • Academic tutoring and after-school support
  • Summer enrichment program for children and youth
  • Job assistance and career coaching
  • Free transportation to and from all programs
  • But we are in a desperate place right now.

Our vans are aging and breaking down, threatening to cut off access for many of the families we serve. At the same time, operating costs are rising—and without unrestricted support, we risk scaling back programs that children, parents, and job-seekers rely on each week.

Our vision is bold but deeply needed:
To grow into a full-service community center with licensed daycare, expanded educational support, and wraparound services that meet people where they are and lift them up.
