Project Description

We're going to raise the roof (and a lot more!) in the Historic Campus at Legacy Woods!

Legacy Woods is a 28-acre revitalization project @ 2280 Grand Avenue in West Des Moines. This City of West Des Moines project is transforming an underutilized space into a vibrant community destination. This living history site blends Iowa’s natural landscapes with our rich local heritage.

The West Des Moines Historical Society is working with the City to develop a historic campus north of the Jordan House. This campus will include a historic log cabin, the Bennett School Museum and eventually, a history & heritage center.

First steps: reconstruct the log cabin, which is in storage right now. We have to pour a foundation, replace a few logs and the roof, then this pioneer-era home will be ready to teach thousands of visitors about early Iowa history!
