Protecting 190 Children: Midwest Christian School Safe Room Project

Project Description

Midwest Christian School is a new Christ-centered private school launching in Ankeny to meet the growing demand for faith-based education in our community. Families are enrolling, classrooms are being built, and teachers are being hired — but one critical safety requirement stands in the way of growing our school beyond 2 classrooms.

The City has required a FEMA-compliant storm shelter to protect all students and staff during severe weather events. The estimated cost of this safe room addition is approximately $300,000. The space will double as additional classrooms as well.

This storm shelter will:
• Protect up to 190 students and staff
• Serve as a community safety resource during severe weather
• Remove the final barrier to growing our school
• Ensure we meet ICC-500 safety standards
