Project Description

We hold evening classes for adult immigrants twice weekly in four levels, with the majority of students in the lowest levels. Volunteer teachers from around Des Moines offer a welcoming, supportive environment that helps students learn the culture and make friends while they acquire or improve their skills. Everything is free, including textbooks and childcare during class. We serve students with unpredictable work schedules and family responsibilities, and register students throughout the school year. We also have a community garden where students and neighbors work together in their own plots, raising food for their families and getting to know each other while expanding their English in a practical environment.
