Project Description
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Des Moines helps recently arrived Iowans as they rebuild new lives for themselves and their families in the United States. The pivotal key to success is financial security and pathways to economic prosperity.
Please contribute to the IRC’s economic empowerment program that helps new Iowans quickly become financially independent and begin contributing to their local communities. The IRC’s programs include job readiness and placement, vocational English language classes to support success at work, and opportunities like upskilling to help them grow their careers. The IRC seeks to further assist clients as they transition from low-wage jobs into higher-paying, higher-skilled careers through career coaching, contextualized basic skill development, and assistance enrolling in an industry-aligned education or credential programs.
The IRC in Iowa has worked with more than 20 unique employers seeking dependable, skilled talent. These employers consistently express satisfaction with the newcomers the IRC helps them recruit—individuals who become essential contributors across industries like agriculture, healthcare, manufacturing and construction. Since opening in June 2022, the IRC has assisted 336 legally present, work-authorized clients who are striving to provide for themselves and their families while contributing to the economic health and vitality of central Iowa.
