WesleyLife Adult Day Center receives $15,000 grant

Jun. 27, 2011

WesleyLife Adult Day Center was recently awarded a $15,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines to fund their building expansion project. This project will allow for a new one-story building, approximately 7,500-8,000 square feet in size, to be built on the Wesley Acres campus in Des Moines and will double the Adult Day Center's capacity and serve 60-65 individuals per day.

"Expanding the Adult Day Center will help address an ever-growing need in our community," stated Denice Gienapp, Adult Day Center Director. "We will be able to serve more individuals and expand our daily program offerings."

For more than 20 years, the WesleyLife Adult Day Center has been providing a valuable service for our community. Through the Adult Day Center, we care for individuals with memory loss, mobility and self-care limitations. We make it possible and affordable for older adults to live at home or with their loved ones as long as possible, rather than relocate to an institutional setting for care. We currently serve more than 800 families per year and maintain an active and dynamic waiting list. WesleyLife's Adult Day Center is the only such center in Des Moines.

This grant serves as a way to honor David and the late Barbara Hurd and Monroe and Frances Colston who have been an instrumental part of Greater Des Moines and the WesleyLife community.

Chair of the Community Foundation Grantmaking Committee Fred Hubbell said, "We recognize the growing demand for services for the aging population and there are limited resources available for families looking for adult day services in Greater Des Moines. Our grant supports the efforts of WesleyLife's response to this community need."
