Honoring Sages Over 70

Nov 11, 2025

For nearly two decades, Sages Over 70 has celebrated individuals whose wisdom, leadership and devotion have helped shape and make Greater Des Moines a thriving community. Each year, dsm Magazine honors a new class of Sages—remarkable leaders whose impact spans decades and whose influence continues to guide the region’s future.

Sages Over 70 honorees are selected for their deep involvement in the community and their steadfast commitment to making it stronger. Through creativity, talent and spirit of service, these leaders have helped the metro area grow and flourish. Their contributions take many forms, including visionary leadership, hands-on community betterment and mentorship. Collectively, their achievements have and continue to influence outcomes for a better tomorrow.

As we celebrate all they have accomplished, we would like to recognize and congratulate this year’s Sages Over 70 honorees:

Greg Edwards, retired CEO of Catch Des Moines
Christine Hensley, former Des Moines City Council member for 24 years
Terry Rich, former president and CEO of the Iowa Lottery and Blank Park Zoo
Bob Stewart, commercial real estate broker for Stanbrough Realty Company
Rick Tollakson, CEO of Hubbell Realty Company
Marcia Wanamaker, realtor with Iowa Realty

Together, they represent service, innovation and generosity that has long defined Greater Des Moines and will continue to guide its future.

Honoring Past and Present Sages Over 70

In recognition of those honored as Sages Over 70, dsm Magazine and the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines established the Sages Over 70 Fund, with contributions benefitting the Better Together Fund. Because our community and its needs are ever-changing, gifts in honor of the Sages allow for strategic response to the most pressing needs and promising opportunities – both now and into the future.

Give to the Sages Over 70 Fund

Like the legacy created by our Sages, your gift is a lasting legacy to our community.
