Connections: Water Trails

Oct. 9, 2018

The Greater Des Moines region has 150 miles of waterways that represent a unique opportunity to explore and connect with one of our region’s greatest untapped assets. In this edition of Connections, Community Foundation President Kristi Knous talks to Hannah Inman of the Great Outdoors Foundation and Gunnar Olson of the Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization about exciting plans for the future of Greater Des Moines' Water Trails.

The Water Trails and Greenways Master Plan outlines a new vision for the future of the region's rivers and creeks. Transformation will take place in and along Iowa's waterways, providing new opportunities for hiking, biking, paddling, tubing, fishing and even surfing in Greater Des Moines. The Master Plan was shaped by the Water Trails Engineering Study which received support from the Community Foundation's Leadership Circle.
