2017 Better Together Award Nominations Now Being Accepted

The Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines recognizes nonprofit organizations, civic groups, and collaborative partnerships that bring people together- with various perspectives- to create change in our community through the Better Together Award.  The Better Together Award seeks to recognize and celebrate the creation of more effective solutions to community challenges brought about by collaborative efforts in Central Iowa. 

Social capital is defined as connections, based on trust, among diverse people or groups that enhance cooperation for mutual benefit.  Those who build social capital possess a unique set of skills and attitudes that enable them to collaborate effectively, make connections between diverse sectors, bridge differences and go after something bigger – together – in our community. 

 

Nominees may be nonprofit organizations, civic groups, or collaborative partnerships that have built social capital within Greater Des Moines specifically by bringing groups and people together to create effective solutions.  Nominees may have mobilized groups to address a community issue in a new way, organized partners to create a neighborhood event, or organized a collective response to a critical issue.   “The Community Foundation is proud to recognize the amazing work being accomplished in our communities through the Better Together Award. It provides us with an opportunity to lift up those whose efforts exemplify the name of this award by making our community better together,” says Kristi Knous, Community Foundation president.

 

To nominate a nonprofit organization, civic group or collaborative partnership for the Better Together Award complete the brief nomination form here between now and March 31, 2017 to brief information regarding the nominee. The recipient of the Better Together Award will receive funding to support social capital efforts and will be recognized at the Community Foundation’s 2017 Celebration Luncheon & Report to the Community on May 4, 2017.
