Through strategic Leadership Grants, the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines plays a key role in providing significant funding to projects that strengthen Greater Des Moines by responding to community trends and opportunities. Leadership Grants are funded through donations to the Better Together Fund. Donors to the Better Together Fund give to support community needs now and into the future as identified through the Community Foundation’s grantmaking process facilitated by the organization’s expert staff, Grantmaking Committee and board of directors. The Community Foundation is pleased to announce a $100,000 Leadership Grant to support the initial phase of fundraising for the Hoyt Sherman Place Foundation’s expansion project.
Hoyt Sherman Place Foundation
The Community Foundation’s Leadership Grant supports the exciting three-story expansion of Hoyt Sherman Place. This opportunity for physical growth will improve the backstage area of the theater and expand patron services to enhance the visitor experience and ensure ADA compliance. From nationally touring acts to local dance recitals, annual attendance rates are increasingly rapidly at Hoyt Sherman Place. This much needed expansion will increase the organization’s ability to continue to attract talent, enhance programming in the gallery space, open the residence of the original mansion and make the facility more accessible for all guests. Additionally, the expansion will allow Hoyt Sherman Place to begin using the front lawn, the first city park in Des Moines, to host neighborhood and community events that will strengthen the area. “The Hoyt Sherman Place Foundation sincerely appreciates the support and endorsement of the Community Foundation through Leadership Grant support,” shares Robert Warren, executive director of Hoyt Sherman Place. “All of the changes made through the expansion phases will allow Hoyt Sherman Place to continue to provide great cultural experiences and entertainment to Central Iowa.”
