Community Foundation affiliates are leaders in strengthening their communities and making a difference for those in need. Working together, this statewide network improves quality of life in local communities and throughout Iowa.  The following stories highlight affiliate work across our state.

 

Socks that Care Foundation in Mitchell County

"The Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines' relationship  with the Foundation for the Enhancement of Mitchell County is  helping our local nonprofit organizations. The Socks that Care  Foundation directs the charitable efforts of Fox River Mills,  manufacturer of performance socks and handwear including the  famous Original Rockford Red HeelĀ® Monkey Sock.The Fox RiverĀ® Annual Benefit Sock Sale attracts over 8,000 people from across the country and sells over 100,000 pairs of socks to support local service organizations such as the Rotary, Kiwanis and Lions Club as a way to give back to Fox River's community, neighbors and employees in Osage, Iowa."

Story County Community Foundation

 "The Story County Community Foundation is working to reduce  poverty by increasing microenterprise opportunities that benefit our  county through funding from the Iowa Microenterprise Assistance  Project grant. This grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines has allowed us to strategically address entrepreneurship, establish  an economic development endowment and convene roundtables about community issues including affordable childcare and agricultural-based businesses."

West Des Moines Community Enrichment Foundation

"Since becoming an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Greater

Des Moines in 2007, nearly $100,000 has been raised to benefit the West Des Moines community. Our support of the City of West Des Moines Department of Human Services provides transitional housing in our community, and we've awarded multiple scholarships to talented young leaders for participation in the West Des Moines Leadership Academy. We're embarking on an exciting new project to improve recreational activities at the West Des Moines Teen Center including a state-of-the-art climbing wall."
