Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families

Evelyn Davis believed in possibilities and that every person has potential. She envisioned the establishment of a workforce center focused on helping people gain employment by building skills through on-the-job training supported by employers. Now Evelyn's dream is quickly becoming a reality.

A consortium of businesses, educators and neighborhood leaders headed by the Community Foundation and Des Moines Area Community College is developed a center offering workforce coaching and training alongside retail services.

The center provides solutions to core community needs such as retail services, workforce training and employment opportunities. This first-in-the-nation initiative co-locates multiple services including direct placement assistance, social, family and workforce support services, training and educational re-engagement.

Past Chief Executive Officer of the Community Foundation J. Barry Griswell said, "The Evelyn Davis Project has the potential to change the entire dynamic in the heart of Des Moines. New jobs, job training and the re-engagement with education will help people not only obtain, but retain, family-sustaining wages."
