The Directors Council awarded Leadership Grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines

The Directors Council (TDC) has been awarded a $25,000 Leadership Grant for the African American Leadership Forum from the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines. Funds will support capacity building, leadership development and activities that will enhance the community and help the movement forward.

Des Moines Social Club receives $350,000 in grants for Firehouse location from Community Foundation

The Des Moines Social Club received another boost toward its $3.5 million fundraising goal to purchase and renovate the Firehouse at the corner of 9th and Mulberry in downtown Des Moines. The Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines is providing a $100,000 Leadership Grant in support of the project. The Community Foundation Leadership Circle, a giving circle comprised of 16 community leaders, is supporting the Social Club with a $250,000 grant.

Community Foundation announces recipients of Better Together Award

The Des Moines Community Playhouse was recognized as the organization recipient and received a $2,500 grant from the Community Foundation to advance its social capital work. David Hurd was named the individual recipient and received a $1,000 award to be distributed to the organization of his choice that is building social capital.

Juice Young Professional of the Year Gives Back with Giving Cards

As the recipient Tiffany received $2,000 to donate to a charity of her choice. She chose to purchase $400 Giving Cards from the Community Foundation to enable the finalists to give back. Finalists can use the Giving Cards to benefit any 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

The Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines asked more than 70 nonprofit leaders representing the arts, health, human services, housing, community betterment, education and environmental causes about the financial health, challenges, trends and the future of our nonprofit sector. Data was compared to surveys taken in 2009 and 2010.

Education and Employment Center, Grocery Story, Retail Outlets to help Revitalize Central Des Moines in Former Top Value Foods Location

Plans for a new grocery store and a workforce training, education and employment center, led by the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines, Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) and CDT Investment, LLC, an investment group based in the Quad Cities, received approval from the Des Moines City Council Monday, January 23, 2012, and the organizations are moving forward to open their enterprises in mid 2012. The plan brings to central Des Moines one of the very first centers of its kind in the nation that will offer many workforce support services, help clients re-engage with educational opportunities and provide on-the-job training in a retail services setting. The workforce component, called the Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families, a grocery store and other retail outlets will be located in the former Top Value Foods supermarket at 801 University Ave. in Des Moines.
