The Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines was founded in 1969.

Our mission is to improve quality of life for all by promoting charitable giving, connecting donors with causes they care about and providing leadership on important community issues...we're simply better together.
Accreditation
The Community Foundation is confirmed in compliance with National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations.
Leadership
The Community Foundation is led by CEO J. Barry Griswell and President & COO Kristi Knous. We are governed by a board of directors that is representative of the community.
Growth
The Community Foundation currently manages assets in excess of $232 million and administers more than 1,115 charitable funds.
Grants
Through Community Foundation grantmaking programs and donor funds, $26 million was granted to charitable causes in 2012.
Gifts we accept
The Community Foundation accepts gifts of cash and appreciated assets, real estate, bequests, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts and gifts designated through a life insurance policy, IRA or 401(k) plan.
Tax benefits
Community Foundation donors receive full tax benefits including access to Endow Iowa Tax Credits-a 25% Iowa tax credit in addition to normal federal charitable income tax deductions for certain charitable gifts.
Grantmaking priorities
The Community Foundation's grant making program supports arts and culture; community betterment; education; health; strengthening children, youth and families; workforce development and social capital.
