About Bravo Greater Des Moines

Bravo Greater Des Moines (Bravo) is a nonprofit organization committed to strengthening the metro area’s arts and cultural community as a key element of a world-class quality of life. Bravo provides a collaborative focus to nurture and grow the arts by increasing funding through public and private sources.

Mission

To provide Greater Des Moines with an enriched quality of life by increasing cultural awareness, advocacy, and funding as well as fostering collaboration among cultural organizations.

Goals

The goals of Bravo are to:

Provide a forum where the cultural needs of Greater Des Moines can be discussed.
Develop sources of private and public funding to assist the cultural community.

PRINCIPAL CHARITY CLASSIC

FORE Our Kids

The Principal Charity Classic is a wonderful community event in the metro area and contributes greatly to the economic vitality and quality of life in central Iowa. The tournament also serves specifically as a way to raise money for local non-profit organizations supporting children.

Using the FORE Our Kids theme to highlight this important effort the goal is to increase contributions to local arts, culture, health and human services organizations supporting youngsters in our area.

BRAVO is one of five outstanding organizations dedicated to supporting children in the community that will receive the proceeds from the 2008 event!

The Principal Charity Classic presented by Wells Fargo will be played at Glen Oaks Country Club in West Des Moines, IA May 28 - June 1, 2008. Birdies for Charity

NEW in 2008 - Birdies for Charity®

The Principal Charity Classic® donated $575,000 in proceeds to area children's charities in 2007. To benefit even more Central Iowa kids' programs this year, The Principal Charity Classic is sponsoring an additional fundraising effort to supplement tournament-generated proceeds.

Birdies for Charity will allow participating charities to keep 100% of every pledge collected on their behalf.

Funding

In an effort to stabilize funding for arts and cultural organizations, local governments have committed a portion of their hotel/motel tax revenues through the establishment of 28E agreements with Bravo. In 2007, over $2 million was made available. The following seven cities and Polk County provide this critical financial support.

And, although the community of Windsor Heights collects no hotel/motel tax revenues, they have also shown their support with a financial contribution.

All funding received from the 28E agreements goes directly to support cultural organizations. Private funds raised through Winefest Greater Des Moines events and the Bravo Awards Annual Gala provide for all administrative costs.
