PGA's Zach Johnson to Headline Disaster Relief at Finkbine 2007 Master's champion Zach Johnson will headline an exhibition at the University of Iowa's Finkbine Golf Course on Friday, September 12 that will raise funds for disaster relief across the state of Iowa. The competition will begin at 4 p.m.
Tickets to the exhibition will cost $10 with 100% of the cost being directed to disaster relief. Tickets can be purchased in advance online at hawkeyesports.com, at the UI Athletics Ticket Office in Carver-Hawkeye Arena and by telephone by calling 1-800 IA-HAWKS.
Earlier in the day and immediately prior to the exhibition as many as 32 team of four amateurs will be paired with an Iowa PGA professional in a pro-am event. This cost of a foursome is $5,000 with 100% of the total revenue from the sale of pro-am positions being directed to disaster relief. The winners of the event will be invited "inside the ropes" during the exhibition and to a private dinner after the event.

Kum and Go Embrace Iowa Logo Pin-Ups Kum & Go is selling Embrace Iowa logo pin-ups in 250 stores throughout Iowa, Omaha, Neb. and Sioux Falls, S.D. for $1 with proceeds going to Embrace Iowa. The sale of Embrace Iowa logo pin-ups in Kum & Go stores will continue thru mid-August. The pin-up sale proceeds will be contributed to Embrace Iowa in early September.

Meals from the Heartland Meals from the Heartland will be collecting school supplies for Iowa's disaster victims during their September 1-9 event at Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines. The event supports the assembly of three million readily-transportable meals for distribution around the world. More information will be available soon at mealsfromtheheartland.org.
Join the Vikings to assist with Iowa City Flood Relief On Friday, July 18, Minnesota Vikings owner Zygi Wilf and LB Chad Greenway will travel to Iowa City to show their support for the residents of Iowa City and Cedar Rapids who were affected by recent natural disasters. Wilf and Greenway, along with Vikings fans, staff members and cheerleaders will remove debris and clean up the Bobby Oldis baseball fields at the city park (200 East Park Road) from 11 a.m. to noon. Following clean up efforts, Wilf and Greenway will present a contribution to the Johnston County Flood Relief Fund, and Greenway will be available to sign autographs.

RAGBRAI® and Embrace Iowa: 2008 Iowa Disaster Fund Team Up To Help Iowans RAGBRAI has created a commemorative bandana that will be available for sale beginning Saturday, July 19 at the RAGBRAI Expo in Missouri Valley for $10. The bandana will be available for purchase throughout the ride at the RAGBRAI Merchandise Trailers, while supplies last. All proceeds will benefit the Embrace Iowa: 2008 Iowa Disaster Fund.
Leading Ladies, presented by the Iowa River Players The rural multi-community theatre located in Rowan, IA (80 mi. north of Des Moines, 8 mi. west of I-35 on Highway 3) is donating it's first night's total proceeds of Leading Ladies to the Embrace Iowa fund for disaster relief. Many Iowa River Players volunteers are from Belmond, a community which was greatly affected by a devastating tornado in 1966. In addition, many of the volunteers are area farmers whose fields became ponds when the torrential rains fell, or other Wright County residents whose basements were flooded by the same storms. Iowa River Players extends an invitation to take time out and laugh while doing something to make a small difference.
Iowa River Players will stage six performances over two weekends, opening on Friday, July 18 and running through Sunday, July 27. The curtain opens Friday and Saturdays at 7:30pm and on Sundays at 2:00pm. Tickets are $10 and reservations to be picked up at the box office can be made by calling (641) 853-2398. Fast-paced comedy, mistaken identities, love triangles, split-second costume changes and guys in dresses are just a few of the treats the Iowa River Players have in store for audiences attending the upcoming production of Leading Ladies by Ken Ludwig.
RAGBRAI CYcling Country Festival The CYcling Country Committee, the City of Ames, and Iowa State University are pleased to announce that as RAGBRAI rolls into CYcling Country, rock legends Styx will headline an evening show benefiting the Embrace Iowa: 2008 Disaster Fund. The RAGBRAI CYcling Country Festival will be held from 5:00 p.m. to Midnight in the Iowa State Center parking lots on Tuesday, July 22.
Des Moines Arts Festival The Des Moines Arts Festival is supporting outreach efforts for the 2008 Iowa Disaster Fund. At the Arts Festival June 27-29, a booth staffed by representatives of the Greater Des Moines Partnership will be in the Kids Area of the Arts Festival. Information regarding the disaster fund will be available and visitors may make donations to the statewide fund. Cash, check or on-line donation capabilities will be available.
Yankee Doodle Pops The Des Moines Symphony’s Yankee Doodle Pops is scheduled July 3 on the grounds of the Iowa State Capitol. Featured guest performer Simon Estes and Yankee Doodle Pops presenting sponsor Bank of the West have teamed with the Symphony to conduct a free-will collection for the 2008 Iowa Disaster Fund. Volunteers will “pass the hat” during the free concert to raise funds. |
