Projects Pending

This category represents conceptual ideas that, when completed will enhance significantly the works already a part of the city’s collection.

Art in Transit is a notable undertaking because of the enormous numbers of commuters who will pass by the artworks each day, as they travel to and from the city center on I-235.

Restoration Ingersoll will most likely be the inaugural project for the Foundation to expand its focus beyond the city center. In order to establish a comprehensive public art collection the Foundation will work with community activists to identify suitable locations within defined neighborhood areas throughout the city.

The inclusion of public artworks in these areas will address fundamental components of other well established public art programs. Furthermore, it will introduce works of the imagination to many residents who might not otherwise have an opportunity to interact with or have access to high quality artwork.

Art in Transit [I-235] - Collaboration with the Iowa Department of Transportation

The Iowa
Department of Transportation [IDOT] and the Foundation are in discussions regarding public art at a number of entrance/exit ramps of the newly renovated I-235. Officials from IDOT appear enthusiastic about exploring the feasibility of installing artwork along the entire span of the freeway, for the benefit of all who travel the I-235 corridor, improving the aesthetics of the streetscape, and providing an enhanced quality to the commuting experience.

Neighborhood Project

Leaders of the city’s Neighborhood Associations have expressed their interest in exploring ways to identify locations for installing public art in areas outside the city center.  A few projects appear to be at a favorable stage of development for initiating a public art project. The Ingersoll renovation plan has identified design and aesthetic elements that include the following...

Identifying key locations for public art

    Decorative street lighting

   Widened pedestrian sidewalks

New street trees, benches, bicycle racks, planter urns and flower beds

Expanding on-street parking & shared off-street parking lots.
