Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation - Projects

The character of a community and its sense of place can be profoundly altered by the presence of high quality art in the public realm.  A powerful example is the “Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial” in Washington, D.C.

The work, created by artist Maya Lin, was plagued by doubt and controversy at the time, but has since transcended the complexities of art and politics to become a national treasure.  It is an elegant and evocative memorial, installed in a reverential place on the National Mall, and visited annually by millions of people.

Ms. Lin’s creation reflects the kind of work the Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation seeks to include in the Des Moines’ public art collection.  The projects in which the Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation has participated and their status is described in each of the following three categories: Pending, in Progress, or Completed.
