June 24, 2010: The Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines presented The Principal Charity Classic with its inaugural Better Together Award.  The award includes $2,500 to help The Principal Charity Classic continue its social capital work which supports children’s charities in Greater Des Moines.
“The Community Foundation created this award to celebrate collaboration in our community and promote working together to achieve results and community betterment,” Community Foundation President J. Barry Griswell said. “We plan to present this award annually to a local nonprofit organization.”
In just three years, The Principal Charity Classic has granted nearly $1.7 million to the five “FORE Our Kids” charities including Blank Children’s Hospital, Bravo Greater Des Moines, Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines, United Way of Central Iowa and Variety – The Children’s Charity. Through the Birdies for Charity program, other nonprofits are supported by the tournament. The Principal Charity Classic was named the Best Event on the Champions Tour in 2009, and over 1,000 volunteers help make the event possible each year.
The Principal Charity Classic was held June 1-June 6 at Glen Oaks Country Club in West Des Moines. www.principalcharityclassic.com.
