Apply for a Grant
Community Foundation grant applications for Leadership Grants and Capacity Building Grants are available for completion through an online web portal called Manage My Grants. For instructions on how to use Manage My Grants click here. To obtain a user name and password for Manage My Grants, please contact the Community Foundation by email or at 515-447-4219.
The Community Foundation plays a key role in providing significant funding to leadership projects that strengthen Greater Des Moines by proactively responding to community trends and opportunities. This grant program seeks to create "tidal waves" around community issues.
Leadership Grant Application Cycle
- Spring Cycle: Letter of Intent due on or before 4:00 p.m., Monday, April 4
- Fall Cycle: Letter of Intent Due on or before 4:00 p.m., Monday, October 3
It is required that organization speak with the Community Foundation's Chief Community Impact Officer, Angela Dethlefs-Trettin, before each Leadership Grant Letter of Intent cycle to discuss the proposal. Your Letter of Intent will not be considered for a Leadership Grant if you have not met with Community Foundation staff prior to submission each cycle.
The Community Foundation will notify applicants on the status of their proposals within fifteen business days after the due date. Proposals that advance in the process will receive further instructions at that time.

Capacity Building Grants
These grants enable nonprofit organizations to strengthen their boards and governance, strategically plan for the future, provide staff training and streamline operations, all while focusing on fulfilling their missions. Grants may also be awarded to support collaborative initiatives or efforts to enhance systemic support around a community issue.
Capacity Building Grant Cycle
Capacity Building Grants are given throughout the year and can be requested at any time. Organizations interested in this grant program are strongly encouraged to contact Anna Nalean, Community Investment Associate to discuss the proposal.
